Not that this is the apporpriate forum for this, but I'd like to address the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday using a quote from my old advice column. (Yes, I am quoting MYSELF. Yes, I realize how gross that is).
"The better part of single girls seem to hate this holiday with the vitriol that is normally reserved for international feuds (see Israel/Palestine). It’s as if Valentine’s Day snuck into their houses while they were sleeping, placed Nair in their shampoo bottles, murdered their cats, then took scissors to all their Coach purses. On this day, women band together and purchase copious amounts of baked goods or hit up the local Cabo Cantina, order the biggest pitcher of margaritas and all the fried carbs (mmm taquitos) on the menu, and drunkenly show how independent they really are, girlfriend (throw your hands up at me)."
Is there a point here? Sort of! Don't be like these girls. Be better! Use Valentine's Day as a fun excuse to watch a bunch of rom coms or buy yourself a bunch of champagne or flowers or lingerie or get a table at a fancy restaurant with a friend and play a game to see who can spot the most miserable couple in the room. Or be like Lena Dunham and channel the colors pink and red into your every day clothing, because they look weirdly awesome together, as she demonstrated at the 65th Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards on Feb 2 in this hot pink and red satin sleeveless frock, complete with festive bow on the back. The Girls director/writer/star accessorized with nude peep-toe pumps and heavily lined eyes, looking feminine and lovely and much like one of those fun cards you used to make in elementary school for your crush (you should all still do that btw, life is short and so on and so forth).
